The world feels crooked, moving is hard, at first he is disoriented, waking up in place he doesn't know. But he remembers and not knowing what else to do, he gets up, it's cold, uncertain what's next, trying not to make noise. Sneaking on the uncomfortable, spiky carpet that must have once been comfortable he moves to his door, sluggishly, moving still feels hard so shortly after waking up, he can barely see and stubs his toe before leaving his room into the hallway with an equally uncomfortable carpet, and the same cool air that makes him shiver, the place is old, most of the furniture and floor are wooden, creaky. The carpets emit that old smell that feels so foreign as he taps through the dark, not trying to wake anyone. He sees a light in the distance, trying not get louder he begins speeding up, not a lot, just that little hopeful bit. At the table there are two girls, he knew the name of one, they look at the new arrival, from the old chairs that smell like the carpets and creak like the floor, the table they sit at, also wooden, bends into fancy patterns at it's feet, it must be expensive. The girls don't say anything, he gets a glass, shaped like no glass at home, feeling even colder than the room and fills it with lukewarm water. He sits down at the table with the girls, they observed him all the way onto the chair, they all look at eachother in their pajamas, silently, solidarity of the early wakers, he smells the air, still that smell that is so foreign, it changes the taste of the sips of water he takes, one of the girls breaks the silence exclaiming "Pretty cold huh?" "Yeah." he answers, "I guess they try to keep it as cool as possible in the summer" "They don't even have heating, just those small electical things" The girl remarked, her friend staying silent. "What have you guys been up to during the offtime? I never saw you with the other groups" He tried to make conversation. "We went to some sights and ate at a café yesterday, our group is with Helen from your class" The humming of the old lights pierced the breaks between conversation. "I guess it'll take a while until anyone else wakes up, what were you two planning on doing?" He asked. "We were just gonna sit here" The other girl explained, her head resting on her arms on the table, bobbing up and down with every word. "Is it fine if I sit here too? I can leave." He awkwardly signed to the corridor he came from. "It's fine" The girl whose name he knew decided. And they sat there until the morning.
